Moon Desk: Today, December 30, 2024, is the 118th foundation anniversary of the Muslim League, the traditional political party of the subcontinent.

Keeping in mind the main goal and objective of protecting the interests of the Muslims of the then British-ruled India, in the historical context of the Partition of Bengal, the Nawab of Dhaka, Sir Khwaja Salimullah, personally invited 3,000 leading Muslim leaders from all over India to Dhaka on December 28, 1906, for an educational conference. After the educational conference, the All India Muslim League was established on December 30 at Ishrat Manzil in Shahbagh, the garden home of the Nawabs, on the proposal of Nawab Salimullah. The political party, strong in the ideology of Muslim nationalism, not only united the disoriented Muslims against the exploitation, deprivation and neglect of the British and Brahminical Hinduism, but also, after 41 years of continuous struggle, divided India in 1947 and established a separate state for Muslims. Based on this fundamental freedom known as the Azadi Movement, Bangladesh achieved complete independence in 1971 through the Great War of Liberation. Moreover, the party and its leaders played an important role in establishing numerous institutions including Dhaka University to make Muslims aware of education. The establishment of the Muslim League is an important chapter in the political history of the subcontinent.
To commemorate the day, the Bangladesh Muslim League has organized a discussion meeting at the Crime Reporters Association Auditorium in Segunbagicha, the capital, on December 30, 2024 at 3 pm. Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury has agreed to be present as the chief guest in the meeting; the acting president of the party, Adv. Md. Mohsin Rashid, will preside. National and party leaders will participate in the discussion. Muslim League Secretary General Kazi Abul Khair has called on party leaders and workers to observe the day with due dignity.
