Mansur Alam, Pabna: Born on 16 October 1828 in Pabna district. 196 years ago today the British government declared Pabna as a modern district.

According to letter No. 3124, Pabna district was formed with police stations like Sadar, Shahjadpur, Raiganj, Mathura, Kshetupara from Rajshahi district and Dharampur, Kushtia, Madhupur, Khoksa police stations from Jessore district. The Chatmohar police station was established in 1846. After various additions and subtractions in 1877, Yamuna river was the eastern boundary of Pabna district. Thus the southern boundary of Pabna district is determined by the Padma river and the eastern boundary by the Yamuna river. In 1903 he formed two police stations named Dulai and Sara. In 1912, it was proposed to sub-divide the fence with parts of Pabna and Sirajganj, but it was later postponed. Tarash police station was established on 2 June 1916. On 10 May 1929, Sujanagar in Dulai and Sara Thana were brought to Tengri Mauza in Ishwardi and renamed as Ishwardi Police Station. Apart from this, Mathura police station was transferred to Bera and Kshetupara police station to Santhia. The boundaries and administrative structure of Pabna district remained unchanged till the partition of the country in 1947. After the independence of Bangladesh in 1971, on August 19, 1981, Bhangura Thana was formed with the parts of Chatmohar and Faridpur. In 1984, the country’s administrative structure underwent major changes. At this time each subdivision was promoted to district and each thana to upazila. Besides, Upazila is also marked as an important level of administrative activities of the country. As a result, Pabna district was split and Sirajganj was declared as the district. Thus, after many evolutions, the current Pabna district stands tall as a modern district.

Pabna district surrounded by Padma-Yamuna river was very advanced in trade, fishing and agricultural economy since ancient times. Hadinganj Bridge, the country’s largest movable, large railway bridge is located in Pabna district. Apart from this there is Pakshi Rail Junction, EPZ, Airport. The country’s only nuclear power plant ‘Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant’ is located in Pabna district. Currently, Pabna district supplies 26% of the country’s total onion demand. Pabna is now the best in litchi production. Apart from this, the district has made great progress in the handicraft industry, hosiery industry, scissors industry, jute industry, fish industry, weaving industry and medicine industry. Square Pharmaceuticals medicines are now being exported abroad to meet the needs of the country. Milk and milk products of the district like butter, chickpeas, ghee, curd, sweets are being sold all over the country. Congratulating the district on its 196th birth anniversary, Pabna District Administrator Mohammad Mofizul Islam told Business Mirror that Pabna is at its best in many ways. I want to see this ancient district as a learning city in the future. And for this, all kinds of cooperation will be provided by the district administration.
