Online Desk: Representatives of seven government colleges affiliated with Dhaka University (DU) on Tuesday submitted their 6-point demands in a meeting with two advisers of the interim government.
They met with Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd) and Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md Nahid Islam at the home affairs ministry and presented their 6-point demands.
The demands included resignation of DU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof Mamun Ahmed and forming departmental inquiry committee to probe the incident of clash between the students and police.
Special Assistant to Chief Adviser on the ministry of home affairs Md Khuda Baksh Chowdhury was present at the meeting.
The student delegation comprised of by Moinul Islam and Rahmatullah from Dhaka College and Mou from Eden Women’s College.
Talking to media Moinul Islam said, “An unexpected situation arose between the students of Dhaka University, Dhaka College and seven colleges last night. A press conference was held in this regard. There we raised six-point demands.”
“We expressed satisfaction that our first demand was accepted yesterday. Besides, a 24-hour ultimatum was given to accept the remaining five demands,” he added.
He however, said that their other demands have been received positively in the adviser’s meeting.
“The advisers assured the student representatives of accepting those demands following various processes,” he added.
Other demands of the students include departmental investigation against the police personnel and measures against Dhaka University students, who made inappropriate comments and gestures towards female students of seven colleges including Eden College and Badrunnessa College during the clashes and separating academic and administrative ties between 7 colleges and Dhaka University, as well as announcing an outline of a separate university in light with the students’ demand.
The students also sought reopening of the city corporation roads on the Dhaka University campus and resolution of the issue by holding a high-level meeting, with the participation of chief adviser, education adviser, information adviser, the UGC member, DU vice-chancellor and student representatives.
