Staff Reporter: Leaders of Khilafat Rabbani Bangladesh and Nezam-e-Islami Party on Thursday called on Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
They held discussions on various issues related to the upcoming national elections slated for January 7.
Mufti Faizul Haque Jalalabadi and Maulana Anwarul Haque led their respective parties at Prime Minister’s official resident Ganabhaban.
Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary KM Shakhawat Moon said that during the meeting, the leaders discussed the overall issues of the national elections with the Prime Minister.
The Awami League President highlighted various steps taken to hold a free, fair and acceptable election, and expected everyone’s spontaneous participation in the election.
The leaders appreciated the steps taken by Sheikh Hasina to make the upcoming parliamentary elections acceptable to all.
They also praised the comprehensive development of Bangladesh under the leadership of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expelled Barrister Shahjahan Omar for submitting nomination form as an Awami League candidate from Jhalakathi-2 constituency in the coming Jatiya Sangsad election violating the party decision.
He was the vice-chairman of BNP’s national standing committee.
After being released on bail from Kashimpur Prison-2 in Gazipur on Wednesday afternoon, BNP vice-chairman Shahjahan Omar joined the Awami League on Thursday (November 30). Then he submitted his nomination form from Jhalakathi-1 constituency as a candidate of ‘Boat’ symbol. He submitted his nomination form online from Dhaka.
Then on Thursday evening, BNP expelled Shahjahan Omar from the party. A press release signed by BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said BNP national standing committee vice-chairman Barrister Shahjahan Omar seriously violated the party discipline taking stand against the party. So, Muhammad Shahjahan Omar has been expelled from all levels including the primary membership according the BNP’s constitution.
