Online Desk: The Bangladesh Textile Garments Workers’ Federation has rejected the budget for the fiscal year 2024-25, saying it has nothing for the country’s 6 crore workers. It has allocations for industries, agriculture, health, education and defense etc. but there is no separate allocation for workers. No matter how much development and increase in per capita income is mentioned in the budget, inequality and inequality will not be eradicated. This budget will increase the scarcity of 6 crore wage workers. In reality, this budget is nothing but the details of the ‘monkey cake distribution’ story.
These things were said at the post-budget press conference organized by the Bangladesh Textile Garments Workers Federation at the National Press Club on Saturday. They expressed anger that the rationing system of workers was not introduced in the budget. They demanded the introduction of a low-cost rationing system for the workers and said that it is possible to provide food security protection to the working people.
Mahbubur Rahman Ismail read the written statement at the press conference. Textile Garments Workers Federation President Abul Hossain, Bangladesh Garments Workers Liberation Movement President Shabnam Hafiz, Green Bangla Garments Workers Federation President Sultana Akhtar, Bangladesh Garments and Sweater Workers TUC Legal Affairs Secretary KM Mintu, labor leaders FM Abu Saeed and Abu Sufian were present at the moment.
This information was given in a press conference of the Textile Garments Workers Federation. It said that protest and demonstration programs have been announced in every industrial area of the country from June 25 to June 30.
It is said in the written statement that out of 180 million people in the country, 140 million do not have their own housing. In the last 53 years, income, health, education, wealth and food inequality in the country have increased tremendously. Working families are worse off than prison inmates. In 1972, the number of millionaires in the country was only 5, which increased to 113,900 in 2023.
The organization said that the syndicate traders are looting about 1 lakh 10 thousand crore rupees annually from the pockets of the workers by increasing the price of food items. In the interests of syndicate traders, the government has adopted a policy of allowing black money (undisclosed income) to be legalized or whitened with a tax of 15 percent. That is why hundreds of thousands of other corrupt people like former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir have become encouraged to commit corruption.
