Special Correspondent: We must ensure that no one lives in insecurity, said Tarique Rahman on Wednesday.

Power has to be handed over to representatives of the people in short time, he told a meeting of BNP in front of party’s Nayapaltan office virtually. BNP held the meeting as mass protests forced Sheikh Hasina to resign and flee the country.

Congratulating students, Tarique Rahman said, “Door of democracy has opened . . . I am urging law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order situation strictly.”

No one should feel insecure because of religion and caste, he said, adding, “Whether Muslim, Hindu, Christian, Buddhist, stand as a shield for their safety. Our first identity is that we are Bangladeshis.”

Calling upon the police to cooperate in fulfilling their duties, Tarique Rahman said that the police are not the enemy of the people. Killer Hasina has made law and order forces as enemies of the people. Most police officers try to fulfill their duties according to the rules of service, BNP Acting Chairman added.

Hasina’s dictatorship has fallen through the revolution of common people and students in the country, he added.

Tarique Rahman said, “To make this victory final, the people of the country must be given security. BNP has nothing to do with those rogue looters. In every neighborhood, everyone including Muslims, Hindus, Christians must fulfill the responsibility of security.”

Merit should have priority in recruitment or promotion, he said, adding foreign dependency should be reduced for development.

“The problem of unemployment should be solved by creating employment in the country. Rule of law must be ensured to ensure justice for all. If everyone is united, we can build a safe nation for young generation,” Tarique Rahman added.
