Staff Correspondent: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said no talks about the general elections were held in the chief adviser’s meeting with the party.
“It will take a bit of time to hold election. We have given the time,” he told journalists after the end of the meeting with chief adviser (CA) at his residence State Guest House Jamuna here.
Mirza Fakhrul said the chief adviser invited them for exchanging views so that “We have come and hold talks in different issues.”
“We also discussed what to do under the current situation of the country and we gave our opinions. We think it is the duty of every citizen to extend allout cooperation to the government” he said.
The BNP secretary general said the country has been freed from those who are considered as killer of democracy and anti-people force and who carried out torture and repression on the people by capturing the state power for long 15 years.
The country is now freed from fascism through the movement of student-people, he added.
“Today it is irony to say that the quarter that snatched the rights of the people is now again out to foil the victory of the mass upsurge staying abroad. It is working to make the victory of the student movement questionable,” said Mirza Fakhrul.
Without mentioning the name, the BNP secretary general said the party which killed many students, children and common people is now making different types of talks which are apparently against the country’s people.
“We believe the current government will take measures to this end,” he said.
Chief Adviser to Interim Government Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus held a meeting with top leaders of BNP at his office Jamuna this afternoon.
As the meeting was scheduled to be held at 4pm, BNP leaders including its secretary general and standing committee members entered Jamuna at 3:45pm.
This was Nobel Laureate Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus’s first meeting with any political party after taking charge of the chief adviser to the interim government.
BNP media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan told BSS that the chief adviser invited BNP secretary general. At his invitation, BNP standing committee members led by Fakhrul joined the meeting.
BNP Standing Committee Members Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar, Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Selima Rahman and Salah Uddin Ahmed were present in the meeting.
