Diplomatic Correspondent: High Commissioner Syed Ahmed Maroof said that the government and people of Pakistan were deeply perturbed by the devastation caused by the ongoing floods in Bangladesh. While sharing a list of relief items, which are on standby and can be delivered at a short notice, he reiterated that Pakistan stands ready to assist in relief measures.
High Commissioner expressed keen desire to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation at multilateral platforms. He noted that strong bonds of fraternity linking our two peoples were deeply rooted in shared history, common faith, cultural affinities and converging interests.
High Commissioner underscored the need for rejuvenating bilateral ties in all areas with main focus on economic and trade relations backed by people-to-people contacts and cultural exchanges. Ease of visa process and resumption of direct flights between Pakistan and Bangladesh were also discussed and there was a consensus that enhancing business and people linkages were mutually beneficial for both the countries. Various avenues of collaborations related to students, youth, business and cultural exchanges were also discussed.
The Hon’ble Chief Advier shared his vision of bilateral and regional cooperation especially SAARC and its vital role in connecting the people of South Asia and uplifting their lives. He appreciated Pakistan’s interest in fostering closer bilateral ties and consensus of views on SAARC and expressed his commitment to working towards mutual interests.
