Gazipur Correspondent: To ensure child protection in Gazipur, 80 girls under the age of 18 years were organized by World Vision Tongi Urban Program, a non-governmental international development organization, to complete a nine-month long martial arts training and certificate distribution ceremony. The training is conducted by an organization called “IKU”. This institute is providing self defense training across the country with great reputation.
World Vision Bangladesh Tongi Urban Program since 2017 in five wards of Gazipur Tongi area to protect and improve the quality of life of children in coordination with the government and other non-governmental organizations under the sponsorship activities of child protection, health protection of children, adolescents and pregnant mothers, prevention of child labor and child marriage, air pollution etc. About 240 girls have received child self defense training in the last three years under the Child Protection Programme.
“When we girls walk alone on the streets, we are often subjected to eve-teasing and other harassment by street bullies, but after receiving this training, I can now go to school without fear.” said a trainee IV 16.
At Tongi Ershadnagar TDH Government Primary School, the certificate awarding ceremony was attended by Mr. Shahnaz Akhtar, Head Teacher of the school, World Vision Tongi Urban Program Manager Manas Biswas, Senior Program Officer Kamnsheesh Nakarek, Program Officer Liza Mitra, Director of Iku Abdullah Al Mamun, etc. Professional people were present.
