Nuruddin Jabed, Lakshmipur: Dakatia river in Raipur upazila of Lakshmipur is losing lives due to encroachment and pollution. The various dams in the river and the garbage accumulated due to long neglect are disrupting the normal flow of water. The district administration and Raipur municipal authorities have taken initiatives to re-encroach and clear the garbage to normalize the flow of river water in Dakatiya.
Raipur Municipal Administrator Padmasan Singh inaugurated the Dakatia river cleaning program adjacent to Women’s College in Raipur city on Thursday afternoon.
In response to a question from the journalists regarding the release of encroachment, Municipal Administrator Padmasan Singh said, “We have taken up a long-term plan by talking to the Deputy Commissioner about the release of the Dakatia River encroachment. De-encroachment work will start soon, all illegal structures on the river will be demolished. Dams obstructing the flow of water will be removed in stages. Dakatia river is the main river of Raipur, it will be encroached very soon, he added.
Upazila Executive Officer and Upazila Administrator Md. Imran Khan Sahad, Upazila Land Officer and Executive Magistrate Shahed Arman along with upazila and municipal officials were present.
