Moon Desk: Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Adviser Md Nahid Islam on Wednesday called upon the officials of Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) to protect the interests of the country’s people by keeping themselves away from irregularities and corruption.

He made the call at a view-exchange meeting with the BSCL officials at the BSCL office, said a ministry press release.

Nahid Islam, also the adviser of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, said the former head of BSCL was involved in corruption and irregularities, which have dragged the company behind.

“We’re reviewing all issues taken place at that time and will act in future based on that,” he added.

At the meeting, Nahid Islam also wanted to know about the outcome of satellite against investment. However, the BSCL managing director replied to him that the outcome of the satellite was not satisfactory as per its expenditure.

BSCL Chairman and Posts and Telecommunications Secretary Dr Md. Mushfiqur Rahman said the company didn’t submit the returns for the last five years and it would be a big amount if they go to submit the returns now.

He said that a five-member committee, consisting of board members of the BSCL, has been formed and it will find out whether any work has been done in violation of the law in the past.

They will take required measures as per their (committee) recommendations, added the BSCL chairman.

BSCL Managing Director Md. Zahirul Islam informed the advisor about the capabilities, weaknesses and challenges of the organization.

He mentioned the loss of valuable equipment of BSCL due to power shortage in Betbuniya and sought the adviser’s intervention in this regard.

The advisor also inspected the monitoring center, television rating point (TRP), telemedicine and e-learning system of the BSCL.
