Nur uddin, Lakshmipur: The local residents held a press conference and formed a human chain to escape the torture of Awami League leaders Harun and Khizir in Raipur under Lakshmipur district.
This human chain was held under the banner of Samlita Savankar Nagar Jota in the new market area of the city on Saturday afternoon. Earlier, the victims held a press conference describing the torture against them.
Accused Harun and Khizir Alam are sons of deceased Noor Muhammad of Khalifa house in Dargarkhola area of Ward No. 2 of Keroa Union. Both are involved in Awami League politics, Khizir Alam is the General Secretary of Ward No. 2 Awami League. They have been accused of harassing the locals by using the power of Awami League for land grabbing, extortion, intimidation, lawsuits and attacks.
Locals including victims Abul Kashem Milan, Delwar Hossain, Kamrul Islam, Kamrul Zaman Sabuj and Sujan said at the press conference and human chain, “We are fed up with the torture of Awami League leaders Bhumi Dusya Khizir Alam and Harunur Rashid for 17 years. No one in the area is afraid of them. We couldn’t speak against these. External forces have been terrorizing the area. According to the deed, they have been occupying the land for various reasons. After we sat in the area and at the police station, there was no decision. They keep us and the people of the area in fear by showing their strength. They harass the people of the area with false cases and fear the loss of their lives.
We want possession of our dispossessed land. Requesting the local prosecution to investigate with impartial people to take necessary action against the said Bhoomi Dusya Khizir Alam and his brother Harun and seek their justice, they added.
