Farewell meeting of the World Bank Resident Director with the Principal Advisor
In a written statement at the beginning of the press conference, he said, on this day of December, the month of victory, we are remembering the martyrs of the great liberation war of 1971 at the beginning. We gratefully remember all the martyrs who gave their lives in the July mass uprising and liberated the country from fascist tyranny. I pray for the forgiveness of the departed souls of the martyrs. I wish good treatment and speedy recovery to those who were injured and are still ill in the fight against fascism.
Ahmed Abdul Quader said, Khilafat Majlis has been playing a positive role in the political arena as a systematic organization according to its capacity. Since its establishment on December 8, 1989, it has played a role in the field for the country, nation and Islam in various movements and struggles. It has continued its role in the field despite killings, torture, lawsuits, attacks, imprisonment and oppression. In the recent student-public uprising of July-August, the leaders and activists of Khilafat Majlis and its affiliated organizations played a role on the streets, standing shoulder to shoulder with everyone.
He further said, after the fall of the Hasina government, Khilafat Majlis, as a responsible political party in today’s free environment, is committed to playing a responsible role in the interests of the country and the people. After the necessary reforms for the welfare of the state and the people, a people-representative government will be established in the country through a fair election, and Khilafat Majlis has continued to play a positive role in fulfilling this public expectation.
In addition, he said, the Khilafat Majlis believes that the path to the true welfare and liberation of the people is ‘Islam’. Only if we can organize the life of the individual, society and state in the light of the ideals of the Rashidun Caliphate, then it is possible to achieve the welfare and liberation of the country and the people. National unity is necessary today to ensure justice for the misrule of the past 16 years, prevent the resurgence of fascism and consolidate the sovereignty of Bangladesh and establish the desired welfare state.
In response to a question, he said, the current government has said that it will hold elections in December 2025, and we are optimistic about that. He also said that commodity prices must be reduced. For this, syndicates and extortion must be stopped. At the same time, law enforcement agencies including the police must be more active.
