Special Correspondent: The Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and the Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) have demanded the immediate removal of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Managing Director Mahbub Morshed. They have also called for an investigation into the corruption and irregularities amounting to hundreds of crores of taka at BSS over the past 16 years.
This demand was made during a protest rally organized by the DUJ in front of the BSS office in Puranapaltan on Thursday. The rally was presided over by DUJ President Mohammad Shahidul Islam and conducted by DUJ Treasurer Khondokar Alamgir Hossain.
Among those who spoke at the rally were BFUJ Acting President Obaidur Rahman Shaheen, DUJ General Secretary Khurshid Alam, BFUJ Organizing Secretary Erfanul Haque Nahid, DUJ Vice-President Kobi Rofiq Mohammad, former President of the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity Rofiqul Islam Azad, BFUJ Executive Member Abu Hanif, DUJ Office Secretary Iqbal Mojumdar Touhid, Executive Members Nizam Uddin Darvesh, Fakhrul Islam, D. M. Amirul Islam Amar, and Shakhawat Ibn Moin Chowdhury.
The rally concluded with a protest march that passed through Paltan Circle, Topkhana Road, and ended at the National Press Club.
BSS Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief Mahbub Morshed was identified as corrupt and a supporter of fascism at the rally. It was stated that his autocracy and irregularities had surpassed even the fascist era of Sheikh Hasina.
Journalist leaders criticized Morshed’s actions over the past six months, which they claimed had called into question the integrity of the current government. They accused him of slandering senior leaders who have led unions and long-standing movements. They described him as a phantom of changing fascism, engaged in discrediting journalists.
They expressed strong resentment over the chaos caused by Mahbub Morshed’s incompetence and his collusion with fascist elements in the management of BSS. Despite the DUJ’s demands, they condemned the government for not removing Morshed from his position and expressed outrage at the betrayal of the government’s policies and ideals.
