For a long time, some fraudsters have been targeting the diplomatic neighborhoods of the Gulshan-Baridhara area in Bangladesh and are carrying out fraud. Such incidents are not new. Organized fraudsters have been doing business using beautiful women. Foreign officials and ambassadors of various embassies are the targets of those fraudsters by trapping them in love. Although these incidents are not new, they have increased recently. During Ershad’s regime, beautiful women were used to lure officials and diplomats of foreign embassies. In some cases, they were used as a political tool. During the Sheikh Hasina government, this type of fraud trap became more widespread.
Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Bangladesh, Essa Yousef Essa Al Duhailan, has been the victim of such fraud.
A Bangladeshi court on Thursday (April 17, 2025) showed the arrest of a beautiful model named “Meghna Alam” in a fraud case filed at the capital’s Dhanmondi Police Station on charges of ‘trapping foreign ambassadors with beautiful girls’. In the same case, her alleged associate, Md. Dewan Sameer, owner of Sanjana Manpower, was shown arrested and taken on remand.
At the hearing, the prosecutor said, ‘These accused have formed a ring to trap foreign citizens working in embassies, including foreign ambassadors, by adopting innovative strategies. They have been committing these frauds for a long time. The last time they tried to frame Saudi ambassador Essa. It is alleged that they demanded $5 million from him.’
Later, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masum Mia granted the arrest warrant for the two of them and also granted Dewan Sameer a five-day remand.
