Special Correspondent: Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) believes that if the divisions among BNP, the political parties involved in the mass uprising, and the interim government are not minimized to reach a mutual understanding, uncertainty will arise in all matters—including reform, accountability for fascism, and the election.

This concern was expressed by the party’s Chairman, Mojibur Rahman Monju, during his opening speech at the party’s regular National Executive Council meeting on Saturday. The meeting was held at the central office of the AB Party, chaired by Monju and moderated by the party’s General Secretary, Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad.

Senior Vice Chairman Prof. Dr. Major (Retd.) Abdul Wahab Minar, Vice Chairmen Advocate Golam Faruk, Jahangir Kasem, BM Nazmul Haque, Lt. Col. (Retd.) Didarul Alam, and Lt. Col. (Retd.) Helal Uddin spoke at the meeting. They discussed the political situation, the upcoming national election, and preparations for the party’s fifth founding anniversary.

In his speech, Monju noted that BNP is insisting that the cut-off time for the election is December this year, while the government claims it is June of the following year. Meanwhile, various political groups are saying that only after visible reforms and accountability can an election take place. Without dialogue and consensus among these three perspectives, the uncertainty and doubt that will emerge will not bring any benefit to the country.

Referring to public sentiment around campaigns like “We want Professor Yunus for five years” or “March for Yunus,” Monju said that if the government can further improve law and order, control commodity prices, keep power outages within tolerable limits during the summer, and show visible progress in the economy, a wave of public support outside of politics could grow in favor of the government.

He warned that if political and non-political sides stand in opposition to each other, it will not yield good outcomes for anyone. He further stated that if the interim government fails to ensure good governance and public safety and resorts to unnecessary delays in reform and elections, it would not be surprising if the current regime meets the same fate as the post-1/11 caretaker government.

During the meeting, the party’s Joint Secretary (Office), Abdullah Al Mamun Rana, presented the report on nationwide organizational activities. Joint Secretary (Finance), Aminul Islam FCA, presented detailed financial reports.

Members of the party’s National Executive Council were present at the regular meeting of the National Executive Council.
