
Diplomatic Desk: Chinese Envoy to Bangladesh Yao Wen said that the launch of direct flights from Chittagong to Kunming, China, will open a new door for Bangladesh-China relations. Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen said that China-Bangladesh relations have reached a unique level in the past 50 years. We have now entered a new chapter. Last month, Bangladesh’s chief advisor visited China and reached a major consensus with President Xi Jinping. He highlighted the various healthcare promises made by China for Bangladeshis recently and said that Bangladeshis will get health facilities from many government and private hospitals in addition to the four hospitals in Kunming.
He said this at a program organized at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building of Dhaka University on Sunday. The Hunan Provincial Government of China and the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh jointly organized the ‘Yunnan Education and Health’ exhibition at Dhaka University to mark the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh-China friendly relations. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mao Weiming, Governor of Hunan Province of China, Yao Wen, Chinese Ambassador to Dhaka, Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University, and Nurjahan Begum, Advisor to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Interim Government, among others. At the beginning of the program, folk songs of Hunan Province were performed by Chinese and Bangladeshi artists.
He said that the Bangladesh government has approved the launch of direct flights on Chattogram-Kunming. This will open a new door in the relations between Bangladesh and China. Besides, for the first time in history, China will import mangoes from Bangladesh by the end of May. The Chinese people will get the best mangoes from Bangladesh. This will add a new dimension to our relationship. He also said that healthcare will be the next issue in the relations with Bangladesh. He said that next month, the Governor of the Chinese Congress and 200 investors from Beijing will come to Bangladesh. There will be a large-scale Bangladesh-China Investment Conference in Bangladesh. China wants to work with the future generations of Bangladesh.
At the event, the Governor of Hunan Province said that the relations between our two countries need to be further improved. The existing friendly relations of industry and trade need to be made easier, more up-to-date and trustworthy. The visa service provision process between the two countries also needs to be made easier. At the event, Nurjahan Begum, Advisor to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, said that after 50 years of diplomatic relations with Bangladesh, the friendly relations between Bangladesh and China are getting stronger. Recently, preparations are underway to build a hospital in Dhamrai, Dhaka, and a 1,000-bed hospital in Rangpur with Chinese assistance. Recently, China gifted Bangladesh a robotic physiotherapy set. Both are making arrangements to provide various vocational training to the people of Bangladesh.
Chinese Ambassador expressed hope that Bangladesh will become more prosperous through this friendly assistance from China. Apart from this, he expressed his interest in working in coordination with the Chinese government in various sectors including telemedicine and physiotherapy. Referring to China’s assistance in the July uprising, Advisor Nurjahan Begum said, “2000 of our people lost their lives in the July uprising. A large number were injured. When we asked the Chinese government for assistance in this regard, they came forward.”
