MM Rahmatullah: National Life Insurance PLC, one of the leading life insurance companies in Bangladesh, has celebrated its 41st anniversary, marking over four decades of achievements and service to the nation. To commemorate the milestone, a cake-cutting ceremony and special prayer event were held yesterday at the company’s headquarters, NLI Tower, Kawran Bazar, Dhaka.
The event was attended by former Chairmen Mahmudul Haque Taher and Tofazzal Hossain, Directors Kazi Mahmuda Zaman and Air Commodore (Retd.) Md. Abu Bakar FCA, Chairman of NLI Securities Barrister Redwan Hossain, Director of NLI Securities Mahmud Habib Zaman, National Life’s Chief Executive Officer Md. Kazim Uddin, Additional Managing Director Md. Khasru Chowdhury, Deputy Managing Director and CFO Probir Chandra Das FCA, Company Secretary Md. Abdul Wahab Mian and other senior officials of the company.
Speakers at the ceremony reflected on the company’s journey since its founding on April 23, 1985, as the first private life insurance provider in Bangladesh. They noted that National Life’s pioneering efforts paved the way for the establishment of many other private life insurance companies in the country. They also emphasized the importance of the insurance sector as a key driver of the national economy, highlighting that insurance premiums are invested in banks and financial institutions, contributing to economic growth.
Since its inception, National Life has played a vital role in encouraging savings among millions of citizens while generating employment, investment and economic impact. The celebration began with the release of balloons and doves, symbolizing peace and prosperity, followed by the cake-cutting ceremony.
From 1985 to 2024, National Life has provided insurance coverage to approximately 7 million people, collected BDT 18,974 crore in premium income and paid out BDT 11,089 crore in claims. The company currently holds a life fund of BDT 5,973 crore, assets worth BDT 6,731 crore, and investments totaling around BDT 5,668 crore. It employs around 5,000 full-time staff and supports the livelihoods of nearly 200,000 individuals both directly and indirectly.
In recognition of its outstanding performance in claim settlements, National Life received two consecutive national awards in 2023 and 2024. The company has also been honored as a top taxpayer and has earned numerous national and international awards for its significant contributions to Bangladesh’s economy.
