Moon Desk: As the world observes the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, today, Kashmiris continue to face India’s brutal policies under military occupation. A report released by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service said the BJP government has escalated its state terrorism in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, particularly after August 5, 2019, when the Modi regime illegally stripped the territory of its special status by abrogating Articles 370 and 35A.
The report revealed that Indian forces have martyred over 96,465 Kashmiris, including men, women, and children, and subjected more than 8,000 to custodial disappearance since January 1989. It added that unabated Indian terrorism has widowed 22,986 women, orphaned 107,985 children, and molested at least 11,267 women over the past 37 years.
“Kashmiris have been enduring unspeakable atrocities for the last 78 years. They continue to suffer under Indian military occupation, its state terrorism, and political injustice. People of all ages and genders are subjected to extreme oppression in the territory,” the report deplored.
It maintained that anti-Muslim hatred has reached new heights in Kashmir since the BJP, led by Modi and Amit Shah, came to power in 2014. However, the report stressed that Indian repression has failed to crush the Kashmiris’ resolve, who remain determined to continue their struggle until freedom from Indian yoke is achieved.
The report further highlighted that while a witch-hunt against political, social, and human rights activists continues unabated, occupation authorities have also reopened cases against hundreds of political activists.
“People are being summoned to police stations repeatedly, harassed, humiliated, and forced to appear in courts far away from their homes,” it said. It added that arbitrary arrests, detention under black laws, fake and fabricated cases, severe punishments, and reopening decades-old acquitted cases have become the new normal in Kashmir, with families of activists also being dragged into courts.
The report urged the global community not to remain silent over India’s brutal actions in IIOJK and called for the prosecution of Indian forces and the BJP regime involved in grave human rights violations. It stressed that Modi and his accomplices must be brought to justice for committing crimes against humanity in the occupied territory.
