Muhammad Mohiuddin Khan won assistant general secretary with 11,772 votes

DU Correspondent: The Islami Chhatra Shibir has secured a sweeping victory in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) election 2025, winning 23 out of 28 posts in the central committee, including vice-president and general secretary posts.
Md Abu Shadik (Kayem) was elected vice-president (VP) with 14,042 votes, defeating his nearest rival, Bangladesh Chhatra Dal candidate Abidul Islam Khan, who polled 5,708 votes. Independent candidates Shameem Hossen and Umama Fatema received 3,883 and 3,389 votes, respectively.
Shibir leader SM Farhad clinched the general secretary (GS) post with 10,794 votes. His closest competitor, Chhatra Dal’s Tanvir Bari Hamim, secured 5,283 votes, followed by Protirodh Porshad’s Meghmallar Bosu with 4,949 votes, while independent candidate Arafat received 4,044 votes and Bakar polled 2,161 votes.
This is the first student union poll under the interim government and the first Ducsu polls without the participation of Bangladesh Chhatra League, as they were banned.
In the assistant general secretary (AGS) race, Shibir-backed candidate Muhammad Mohiuddin Khan won with 11,772 votes, defeating Chhatra Dal’s Tanvir Al Hadi Mayed, who received 5,064 votes. Independent candidate Tahmid Al Muddassir Chowdhury got 5,064 votes while Ashrefa Khatun, representing the Anti-Discrimination Students’ Council, polled 900 votes.
SM Farhad is the president of DU Chhatra Shibir, and Mohiuddin Khan is the secretary.
Meanwhile, Fatema Tasnim Juma was elected to the post of Liberation War and Democratic Movements representative with 10,631 votes.
Shadik Kayem, Farhad, Mahiuddin and other candidates from the Oikyoboddho Shikkharthi Jote have arrived at the Senate Hall on 10 September 2025.
Other victories for the panel include Umme Salma (Common Room and Cafeteria Secretary), Arman Hossain (Sports Secretary), Md Asif Abdullah (Student Transport Secretary), Jasim Khan (International Affairs Secretary), Abdullah Minhaj (Health and Environment Secretary), Sakhawat Zakaria (Human Rights and Law Affairs Secretary), Md Mazharul Islam (Career Development Secretary), and Md Iqbal Haider (Science and Technology Secretary).
Outside of the Shibir panel, Jubair Bin Neshari (AB Jubair) won as Social Welfare Secretary, Musaddiq Ali Ibn Muhammad as Literature and Cultural Secretary, and Sanjida Ahmed Tonni as Research and Publication Secretary.
Chief Returning Officer Professor Mohammad Jasim Uddin announced the results of the election. He began his speech at 8:23am this morning (10 September).
He said, “For a long time, we have been deprived of democracy, deprived of voting rights. Whenever the country falls into crisis, Dhaka University comes forward to rescue it. We had promised that we would keep our word, and we have kept it.”
He further said that Ducsu was much anticipated.
“By not holding elections for so long, we had forgotten many things. Through this election, we have created a model that other universities and colleges can adopt,” he added.
