Syed Atik, Gazipur: As part of a humanitarian initiative, Global Kids School has stepped in to support a homeless and destitute family in Tongi, Gazipur, by gifting them a new house.
The house was formally handed over on Sunday afternoon, May 10, at Keranir Tek slum adjacent to Tongi Railway Station.
According to locals, the family—with two small children—had been living in extreme hardship for years. They resided in a makeshift shelter made of sacks and polythene, vulnerable to storms, rain, and adverse weather. During heavy downpours, family members were forced to take shelter under others’ houses.
Considering their plight, Global Kids School extended humanitarian support. With overall assistance from the school’s directors Mahbubur Rahman Jilani and Mohammad Shamim Reza, a new house was constructed using colored tin, pillars, and bamboo.
The handover ceremony was presided over by the school’s founding director Mahbubur Rahman Jilani and conducted by director Mohammad Shamim Reza.
Nazmul Hossain Mondal, joint convener of Gazipur Metropolitan Jubo Dal and member secretary of Tongi Purba Thana Jubo Dal, attended as chief guest.
Special guests included Md. Abdul Khalek, founding president of 46 No. Ward Jubo Dal and councilor candidate, journalists Kalimullah Iqbal, Nuruzzaman, and Arif Chowdhury, along with local dignitaries, social workers, and residents.
