Special Correspondent: The general meeting of the Society of National Media Commission and the announcement of its new central committee for the 2026-2028 term was held with a grand event in Uttara, Dhaka, on Friday.
The meeting took place at 2:00 PM at an upscale restaurant in Uttara. At the end of the general meeting, the organization’s Chief Advisor Shamsul Haque announced the 41-member new central committee.
A. K. M. Azizul Haque was unanimously elected President, and Md. Kalimullah Iqbal was elected General Secretary. Kamal Khan was appointed Organizing Secretary.
Speaking as chief guest, Shamsul Haque said, “The new committee must work dedicatedly for the service of the country and its people in the coming days. Upholding the noble mission of journalism, it must not bow to any injustice.”
Speakers at the meeting emphasized the ethics and accountability of journalism, and the role of media professionals in social reform. They pledged to enhance the organization’s image through objective news reporting.
Journalist Abdul Wahab Rinku, outgoing General Secretary Monir Hossain Chowdhury, Mosleh Uddin Bachchu, poet and writer Abul Khayer, Ismail Hossain, Advocate Manik, H. M. Mahfuzul, and Roman Sheikh, among others, also addressed the event.
After the new committee was announced, attendees extended floral greetings to the newly elected leaders and vowed to make the organization’s activities more dynamic and people-oriented.
