Newly appointed Executive Engineer of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) in Tangail, Jahanara Parveen, has formally protested two reports published on July 20 in the print edition of Daily Rupali Bangladesh and the online portal Asia Post, describing the allegations against her as “false, fabricated, baseless and motivated.”
In a written protest statement, Parveen alleged that the reports were published with the intention of tarnishing her personal reputation and damaging the image of the LGED as well as the government. She claimed that the reports were influenced by “certain interested individuals” seeking to malign her following her recent appointment as Executive Engineer of Tangail.
According to the statement, Parveen said she had recently been appointed to the post under the orders of the competent authority and maintained that she earned the position through her professional qualifications and service record. She also noted that, as a female officer, she had every legitimate right to receive the appointment.
She stated that throughout her career, including postings in Jamalpur, Sherpur and as Senior Assistant Engineer in Tangail, she had carried out her duties with honesty, dedication and to the satisfaction of the authorities.
Highlighting her connection with the district, Parveen said she is a native of Tangail and has extensive knowledge and experience regarding the district’s development activities. She argued that this familiarity would help her perform her responsibilities effectively.
In the protest letter, she alleged that after receiving the promotion and posting to Tangail, a former Executive Engineer became dissatisfied and initiated what she described as a campaign of misinformation through social media and various media outlets to damage her reputation, the department and the government’s image.
Parveen mentioned that she had worked under the former Executive Engineer, Kamruzzaman, for approximately 14 months until July 12, 2026. During that period, she claimed, no allegations of misconduct or professional negligence were raised against her, nor was any complaint officially reported to the department.
She further stated that she assumed charge as Executive Engineer of Tangail on July 16, 2026, while the former Executive Engineer was transferred to the LGED headquarters on the same day.
Rejecting specific allegations carried in the published reports, Parveen denied claims that her husband was involved in government contracting, saying no evidence had been presented to support such assertions.
She also refuted allegations regarding irregularities in government procurement, explaining that as a member of the tender evaluation committee, she performed her responsibilities in accordance with established procedures. She said recommendations were made only after the committee’s assessment and with the approval of the Executive Engineer before being forwarded to the appropriate authority.
The allegation that she used a government vehicle for personal purposes was also described as “completely false and baseless.”
Parveen further denied accusations that she had exercised political influence in securing her posting, calling the claim “entirely false, fabricated and malicious.”
She argued that if there had been any genuine irregularities in her conduct, the former Executive Engineer could have sought an official explanation from her and informed higher authorities through proper administrative channels. According to her, no such official complaint exists.
Expressing deep disappointment, Parveen said it was regrettable that such allegations had been made by a senior government engineer without substantiated evidence.
Concluding her statement, she strongly condemned the publication of what she termed “false, fabricated and imaginary” allegations and formally protested the reports.
