Special Correspondent: Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) organized a discussion meeting and cultural program on the occasion of the celebration of the International Mother Language Day on 21 February. Ekushey Padak-winning journalist and Amar Desh Editor Mahmudur Rahman spoke as the chief guest at the discussion meeting held. AB Party Chairman Mojibur Rahman Monju presided over the event, while general secretary Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuaad moderated. Eminent educationist and Ekushey Padak-winning intellectual Dr. Sukomal Barua was present as the special guest at the discussion meeting organized at Bijoy Ekattor Chattar adjacent to the Central office. AB Party Vice Chairman BM Nazmul Haque, Lt. Col. (Retd.) Helal Uddin and senior leaders of AB Party spoke at the event.
Mahmudur Rahman said in his speech as the chief guest that every movement from the 1952 Language Movement to the 24th mass uprising has repeatedly taken place under the leadership of students. He highly praised the youth and said that the youth gave their lives with infinite heroism, which was not possible for us. The youth fought the utmost. Our youth together defeated the hegemonic and Indian hegemonic forces. It is because the youth gave their lives that I was released from exile and received the 21st medal now. He expressed hope that the youth will build a Bangladesh much better than the one we built.
In his speech as president, Mojibur Rahman Monju said, the mass uprising is to defeat this hegemonic and fascist force. Our July 52nd is the inspiration for the mass uprising. The spirit of the 21st is – to stand in front of the gun; the education of the 21st is to stand up against injustice, to fight for rights. The headline of the Amar Desh newspaper “Footsteps of Fascism in Shahbagh” has shown how powerful language and words can be. The mass uprising is the only solution; this has been repeatedly said by the editor of Amar Desh, Mr. Mahmudur Rahman. The sound of fascism and the mass uprising are the only solution to liberation, both of which take us to the destination of liberation.
As a special guest, Dr. Sukomal Barua said, I have seen genuine love for the mother tongue among the leaders and activists of the AB Party, the July mass uprising has opened the door to speaking.
He said that he has not seen such a large crowd of people in the mass uprising of 24 in any other movement except the Liberation War and that the AB Party is reaching its goal in a very short time.
Among the leaders of the AB Party who also spoke at the discussion meeting were Central Joint General Secretary Barrister Zubayer Ahmed Bhuiyan, ABM Khalid Hasan, Dhaka City North convener Altaf Hossain, AB Jubo Party convener Shahadatullah Tutul, Dhaka City South joint convener Abdul Halim Khokon, and leaders at various levels of the central and city areas spoke at the event.
