Online Desk: Earthworms or similar insects are being found in WASA water in different areas of Dhaka city. Along with this, there is dirt and stench. During the last fascism, WASA’s looter MD Taskin A Ahmed took a project worth 22,000 crore taka. All of which has gone into the pockets of Awami looters instead of purifying water. Although the same situation prevails every year with water, there is no solution to it. For years, no government has been able to ensure the basic right of the people to clean drinking water. AB Party General Secretary Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuaad expressed concern that WASA is silent even after the terrible E. coli virus was found in WASA water. He said that it is not possible to provide clean water to the city dwellers without removing all the corrupt earthworms or insects that are sitting among WASA officials and employees.
He said this at a press conference organized by AB Party on Sunday on the topic of “WASA’s polluted water, city dwellers at grave health risk”.
AB Party Joint General Secretary Barrister Nasreen Sultana Mili delivered a keynote speech on the suffering of polluted water and its solution at the press conference. AB Party Joint General Secretary Barrister Zobayer Ahmed Bhuiyan, ABM Khalid Hasan, Shadow Affairs Secretary Barrister Abbas Islam Khan Noman, Power and Energy Affairs Secretary Engineer Mohammad Lokman and Organizing Secretary Abdul Baset Marjan were present at the event.
Barrister Mili spoke on WASA pollution and its solution that every year at the end of summer and the beginning of the monsoon, WASA water becomes a breeding ground for dirty insects. The level of pollution increases so much that the outbreak of diseases increases drastically due to this. But no long-term solution has been thought of for this. In a writ petition filed by a lawyer in 2019, the High Court Division asked within 7 days why feces, urine and ammonia were found in WASA water samples. The answer to which has not been found even in 7 years, which is undesirable.
Unplanned road digging competition starts in Dhaka city after winter and it is often seen that sewage and water lines have become one.
Even in 54 years of independence, despite the rush of development and Smart Bangladesh, we have not been able to establish a pure, drinkable water supply chain, which is our total failure.
Like the previous MD of WASA, Taksim A Khan, I have not seen the current MD doing any visible work in providing pure water. When thousands of citizens were suffering from the problem of drinking water full of E. coli bacteria and insects, I did not get any solution from WASA MD, let alone any statement. The suffering of residents of various areas including Jurain, Moghbazar is endless. The residents of this area are suffering from various diseases due to the use of dirty and smelly water for daily activities including cooking. The deep tube well of the local mosque in Jurain is now their last hope. They have been buying water from there at a nominal price for years. Such citizen suffering even after paying the WASA bill is completely contrary to the spirit of the July Uprising.
We call for immediate identification of where the water and sewage lines meet and fix it.
As a long-term measure, use water filtering technology, maintain a good supply chain, replace old lines, close illegal lines, and liaise with the city corporation to undertake road works so that the common people do not have to suffer the same every year due to unplanned potholes.
AB Party Dhaka City South Joint Member Secretary Ahmed Barkaz Nasir, Assistant Publicity Secretary Ripon Mahmud, Azadul Islam Azad, Assistant Office Secretary Advocate Sharan Chowdhury, Mashiur Rahman Milu, Assistant Finance Secretary Abu Bakar Siddique, Assistant Women’s Affairs Secretary Shahinur Akhter Sheela, Jatrabari Thana Convener Sultan Mohammad Arif, and leaders at various levels of the central and Cities also present at the press conference.
