DU correspondent: AB Student Party held an emergency press conference at the Madhur Canteen of Dhaka University on Wednesday (April 23). At that time, the central convener of the Student Party, Muhammad Prince, spoke in solidarity with the ongoing movement demanding the resignation of KUET VC and said, the footsteps of a new dictatorship are being heard in the country. The Vice Chancellor (VC) of the university is the guardian of the students. But during the regime of dictator Hasina, we saw many VCs who were biased and discriminated against students due to their party affiliation and political ideology. After the fall of dictator Hasina, we expected to see unprecedented changes in the teachers and VCs of the universities in the new Bangladesh and dedication to making the educational institutions student-friendly. But we were surprised to see that Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) VC Professor Dr. Mohammad Machud has decided to expel his own students unfairly in the event of students clashing with outsiders. Which is extremely shameful and stepmotherly behavior. Even after the students demanded his resignation, he shamelessly continued to hold the post of VC. For the past two days, KUET students have been on a hunger strike to the death, but the KUET VC has not budged. Students from various universities across the country have protested in solidarity with KUET students. In such a situation, no visible action has been seen from the education advisor of the interim government. Such a detached attitude of the advisors sitting on the blood of two thousand martyrs is truly very painful.
Bangladesh students are demanding the immediate removal of KUET’s erstwhile VC Dr. Mohammad Machud from the interim government. At the same time, they are calling on the KUET authorities to take appropriate steps as soon as possible to fulfill the just demands of the students. Otherwise, in solidarity with the general students, the Bangladesh Student Party will launch a strong movement to ensure the removal of KUET VC Dr. Machud from the road.
At the same time, on April 22, the central member secretary of the Bangladesh Student Party, Ashraful Islam Nirjhar, condemned the false propaganda against Israt Jahan Isha, a member of the organization’s central executive council and convener of Dhaka Metropolitan North, through social media.
Nirjhar said, the rate of women’s participation in politics in Bangladesh is very low. After the July Revolution, that number has increased promisingly. But we have also seen during the period of Awami Fascism that dirty propaganda was used to harass and character-kill women politicians through social media. As a result, women interested in politics used to turn away from politics to avoid family and social evils. After the July Revolution, we have also noticed such hateful propaganda against women who led the revolution, which is very sad. As a result, women are suffering from insecurity in politics due to these reasons. On April 22, some political miscreants on the social media Facebook shared a TikTok creator’s drinking video with a picture of Bangladesh Chhatra Paksha’s Central Executive Parliament member and Dhaka Metropolitan North convener Israt Jahan Isha, and spread hateful propaganda. We strongly condemn and protest this. Along with this, we demand quick action by the law enforcement agencies to control such crimes. We will immediately take legal action against these miscreants along with the victim. We want those women who participated in the July Revolution to feel safe in Bangladesh’s politics. If any miscreant’s propaganda tries to stop this progress, we will break their venomous teeth.
At this time, Israt Jahan Isha, the Central Executive Parliament member of Bangladesh Chhatra Paksha and Dhaka Metropolitan North convener, who confessed to the harassment, spoke about her bitter experience and the legal system.
The press conference was attended by central joint conveners Aqib Hasan, Fawzia Fariha Karbi, publicity secretary Rashedul Islam, central committee members Kamrul Islam, Ariful Islam, convener of the student wing DU branch Khaled Saifullah Jihad Bhuiyan, DU branch joint conveners Sabbir, Farzana Akhter Mitu, DU branch members Zubair Hasib, Shwashat Haque and other leaders.
