Faruk Ahmed, Magura: Awareness raising workshop-2024 was held in Magura to prevent circulation of fake notes. On Saturday 28th September at 10.30 AM at Magura District Auditorium, Nomani Maidan, Anti-Counterfeit Circulation Workshop Program was held in collaboration with Sonali Bank Plc Magura District Branch.

Didarul Alam, Assistant General Manager Magura Sonali Bank Plc Magura branch presided over the workshop programme.

Khulna Bangladesh Bank Additional Director Md. Manjur Rahman was present as the chief guest in the Counter Counterfeit Note Circulation Workshop Program.

Bangladesh Bank Joint Director (Khulna) Md. Mizanur Rahman was present as a special guest.

Chief Guest Khulna Bangladesh Bank Additional Director Md. Manjur Rahman said that the function of money is to act as a medium of exchange, unit of account and store of value. He said about fake notes, the notes that are marketed without the approval of the central bank or financial authority of the country by creating notes or coins exactly like the common valid notes or currency of the country are fake or fake notes.

Khulna Bangladesh Bank Joint Director Md. Mizanur Rahman said that the original currency note will be made of high quality fiber paper and the fake note will be made of paper, which will weaken and become uneven if pressed in the hand. If counterfeit notes are detected, the presenter along with the counterfeit notes should be handed over to the law enforcement authorities and the nearest Bangladesh Bank office should be informed. If the bank officials are satisfied that the bearer has presented it in good faith then the fake note should be confiscated. At the time of seizure the note must be stamped “Jal” or the word “Jal” should be written in large letters in red ink. On the other side of the fake note, the bearer’s name, father’s name, present and permanent address, full signature and date should be written. He should take a written statement as to from whom he received the note. If the presenter is illiterate, his thumb impression of his left hand should be taken. Fake notes and the statement of the bearer of fake notes should be forwarded to the law enforcement authorities for further investigation. After the investigation, the law enforcement authorities will send the counterfeit notes and the investigation report to the currency officer of Bangladesh Bank. National economy is adversely affected, people are cheated. Common people’s confidence in the conventional monetary system decreases. The value of pure and genuine currency decreases. Currency acceptance decreases. Markets become unstable. Social unrest and illegal activities increase.

Bangladesh Bank can only generate money and no one else can create it.
