City Desk: The 47th general meeting of Bangla Academy was held on Bnagla Academy premises in the capital on Saturday.
In recognition of their contribution in various fields, seven people were given Bangla Academy Honorary Fellowship-2024 and six people were given six awards conducted by Bangla Academy, said a press release.
The programme started with the hoisting of the national flag and the flag of Bangla Academy with the performance of the national anthem by the cultural organisation ‘Surasaptak’ led by artiste Ferdous Ara on the Bangla Academy premises.
Lion Khan Aktaruzzaman, lifetime member of Bangla Academy, delivered a captivating speech at the annual meeting.
He highlighted the contribution and future plans of Bangla Academy in the development of Bengali language, literature and culture.
Lion Khan Aktaruzzaman said, “It is the moral responsibility of all of us to complete the unfinished works of Bangla Academy. This institution symbolizes the progress of our language, literature and culture.
So we have to work from each position by strengthening the hands of the Academy President and Director General.
Bangla Academy President Prof. Abul Kasem, Bangla Academy Director General Professor Dr. Mohammad Azam, and Secretary Moha: Naib Ali were present.
The meeting will be an important milestone in celebrating 47 years of success and achievements of Bangla Academy as well as giving directions for future plans.
Bangla Academy Honorary Fellowship-2024 and six awards administered by Bangla Academy are- Sa’adat Ali Akhand Literary Award 2024, Literary Mohammad Barkatullah Nonfiction Award 2024, Kabir Chowdhury Children’s Literature Award 2024, Professor Mamtazuddin Ahmad Natyajan Award 2024, Abu Rushd Literary Award 2024 and Rabeya Khatun Fiction Award 2024 were awarded.
The recipients of Bangla Academy Honorary Fellowship-2024 are – Moidul Hasan (Liberation War), Richard M. Eaton (History), Professor Dr. Saeba Akhtar (Medical Science), Dr. Ferdowsi Qadri (Science), Sugata Chakma (Language Studies), Shahidul Alam (Arts) and Shambhu Acharya (Arts).
The activities of the 47th General Assembly of Bangla Academy were conducted by the Deputy Director of the Academy Saira Habib, Kazi Rumana Ahmed Soma, Dr. Saheed Montaj, Roksana Parveen Smriti and Deputy Director (ongoing duty) Dr. Mahbooba Rahman.
