Special Correspondent: Awami League candidate and Bengal Group Chairman Morshed Alam has won the Noakhali-2 constituency in the 12th parliamentary election held on Sunday. Mr. Alam also the Chairman of National Life Insurance Company Limited and Bengal Media Corporation Limited (RTV).

He received 56186 votes with his party’s ‘boat’ symbol, while his nearest rival, Independent candidate Md Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan bagged 52863 votes.

Mr. Morshed Alam is one of the most eminent business icons of present time in the country. With perception and technical expertise, he has become a leading entrepreneur of Bangladesh. He was born on 29 March 1950 in Noakhali, Bangladesh. He was born to father late Haji Md. Idris Mia and mother late Tahera Begum.

He was the Member of Parliament of 10th & 11th National Parliament representing the constituency of 269, Noakhali-2 (Senbagh-Sonaimuri). He was declared CIP for the Fiscal Year of 1996-1997, 1999-2000, 2008-2009 & 2010-2011 (Export) by the Ministry of Commerce, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh for his remarkable contribution in the business arena. He is also recipient of Prime Minister’s National Export Trophy – Gold during the FY 2013-2014, 2012-2013, 2011-2012, 2006-2007, 2000-2001, Prime Minister’s National Export Trophy – Silver during the FY 2013-2014, 2012-2013, 2010-2011, 2009-2010, Prime Minister’s National Export Trophy – Bronze during the FY 2010-2011, “Best Enterprise Award 2007” (Awarded by DHL / The Daily Star). He is the founder of Bengal Group of Industries
