BSS, DHAKA: Awami Jubo League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash on Saturday said that BNP boycotted the January 7 general election as people do not trust them.

“BNP is a criminal party and people don’t trust them. They hate them. From that guilty feeling, BNP men knew that people would never come to vote for them. That’s why, BNP boycotted the polls,” he said.

He said these while chairing the opening ceremony of distribution of winter clothes among the needy people across the country under the initiative of Awami Jubo League on Banani Model School premises here.

Awami League (AL) Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Aminul Islam Amin attended the ceremony as the chief guest.

Parash said that AL promised to bring the price of the essentials under the grip of people’s purchasing power and that is why this pledge came first in its election manifesto considering the issue as a challenge for the present government.

In AL’s mindset, the common people always get priority, he said, adding that history says that the country witnessed massive development whenever AL assumed power.

Speaking on the occasion, Aminul Islam Amin said:”We don’t believe in words, we believe in actions. That is why the leaders and workers of Jubo League, Chhatra League and Krishak League stood by the common people during coronavirus pandemic. They helped the people of this country by risking their lives.”

He said those who became champion again and again in corruption do not stand by people in their plight-period.

One day, they will be lost forever from the politics of Bangladesh, Amin added.

Presidium members of Jubo League Md Habibur Rahman Paban and Engineer Mrinal Kanti Joddar, Joint General Secretary Mutiur Rahman Badsha, Organizing Secretaries Mazharul Islam and Saifur Rahman Sohag, Acting President of Dhaka North City unit of Jubo League Zakir Hossain Babul, General Secretary Md Ismail Hossain and Office Secretary Md Mostafizur Rahman Masud also spoke, among others.
