BSS, DHAKA: Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said BNP is creating terrorist acts and hatching conspiracy to foil the 12th national elections.

He made the remarks at a view-exchange meeting at the Dhaka District Awami League office in Tejgaon here this afternoon.

Quader said BNP is creating terrorist acts and hatching conspiracy to thwart the elections, while there is an involvement of some foreigners to this end.

“Some foreigners here have far-reaching plans. They want to dominate (in Bangladesh). They have geopolitical interest,” he said.

Noting that the AL is going through a challenging time with the elections, the AL general secretary said: “We have to overcome this challenge. Another great opportunity to institutionalise democracy has come to us. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the pathfinder in this tough fight to turn the crisis into a possibility.”

The directives that she (premier) has given to overcome the current crisis should be followed, he added.

Quader said politicians only think about elections and it is a challenge to win with honour. The next elections must be a participatory and peaceful one to overcome the reaction the whole world has shown as BNP is not participating in it, he said.

Quader said there will be no blueprint polls while the country’s people will give their mandate.

Quader said the parliament has not been dissolved yet, so Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Jatiya Party Chief Patron Raushan Ershad held a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today.

Raushan Ershad shared her party’s internal issues with the prime minister, he said.

AL presidium member Kazi Zafarullah and office secretary Barrister Biplab Barua were, among others, present.
