MOON Desk: Coast Guard seized 925 grams of crystal meth (ice), 13,300 pieces of yaba, 213 cans of beer and 50 bottles of foreign liquor in separate operations at St. Martin and Teknaf.
Lieutenant Commander Abdur Rahman, media officer of the Coast Guard Headquarters, gave this information on Monday afternoon.
Based on secret information, a special operation was conducted in the area adjacent to Shahpari Island by BCG Station St. Martin under Bangladesh Coast Guard East Zone at approximately 0100 hours on Monday night. During the operation, two persons were seen coming from Jhowban, adjacent to the south beach of Shahpari. A Coast Guard member signaled a stop if their movements appeared suspicious. Realizing the presence of the Coast Guard, the two men quickly fled inside the boat. Later, a bag hidden in a bush in a fancy way was recovered by raiding the forest. The bag was searched and 925 grams of crystal meth (ice) was seized with an estimated value of four crore sixty two lakh fifty thousand rupees only.
On the other hand, a special operation was conducted by BCG Station Teknaf under Bangladesh Coast Guard Eastern Zone at around 0025 hours in Old Pallan Para area under Teknaf police station. Coast Guard members signaled the man to stop if the man’s movements appeared suspicious during the operation. When the man sensed the presence of the Coast Guard and tried to run away, the Coast Guard members managed to chase him and arrest him. A bag in the latter’s hand was searched and 13,300 pieces of yaba were seized. The arrested person’s name is Taker Alam (23), father: Syedul Islam, resident of Damdamia, Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.
In another operation, at approximately 0115 hours, an operation was conducted by BCG Station Teknaf in Parabon area near Naf river under Teknaf police station. During the raid, a dinghy was seen crowding the river bank. If the movement of the boat appears suspicious, a coast guard member gives a signal to stop. At that time, the sailor in the boat realized the presence of the coast guard and left the boat on the shore and quickly fled into the Parabon. Later, the boat was searched and 213 cans of beer, 50 bottles of foreign liquor were seized.
Later, the seized crystal meth (ice), yaba, beer, foreign liquor, canoe and the arrested person were handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station for legal action.
