Online Desk: The Jalgaon district police in Maharashtra have been accused of neglecting investigations into multiple cases of atrocities against Muslims. In this connection, a delegation led by Farooq Sheikh Abdullah, President of Muslim Miniar Community met with District Superintendent of Police Maheshwari Reddy and highlighted concerns over 26 incidents reportedly mishandled by the authorities.
In a detailed 12-page letter submitted to the police official, the delegation cited instances ranging from the alleged kidnapping of minor Muslim girls to deceptive practices targeting young Muslim women. Farooq Sheikh Abdullah emphasised that despite severe injuries in some cases, the police failed to apprehend the accused promptly. Furthermore, the delegation alleged biased actions by law enforcement, citing incidents where only Muslim youths were arrested following stone-pelting incidents.
“We have brought to light several cases where justice has been delayed or denied,” stated Farooq Sheikh Abdullah during the meeting. “These atrocities not only victimise individuals but also instill fear within the community.”
Victims present at the meeting expressed their dismay over the lack of progress in their cases and shared their personal experiences of injustice. One victim, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted her ordeal of being abandoned after giving birth under coercive circumstances.
SP Maheshwari Reddy assured the delegation of a thorough investigation into all mentioned cases. “I assure you that the police will give utmost attention to these matters,” Reddy affirmed. “We will take necessary steps to ensure justice is served and those responsible are held accountable.”
The allegations have sparked outrage among community members, with calls for immediate action and accountability from the authorities. “If prompt action is not taken, we will be compelled to protest democratically and seek legal recourse,” warned Farooq Sheikh Abdullah.
The delegation concluded the meeting by stating its intention to approach the high court if its grievances were not addressed on time. They urged the SP to prioritise the safety and rights of the Muslim community in Jalgaon district.
