CHATTOGRAM Bureau: All 23 crew members of MV Abdullah reached Chattogram port and reunited with their families this afternoon, after two months of tension and anxiety following the abduction of the sailors by Somali pirates.
The sailors, borading on a lighter ship, ‘Jahan’, arrived at the New Mooring Container Terminal of Chattogram port at around 4 pm.
The mother vessel MV Abdullah anchored at Kutubdia outer anchorage at 6pm on Monday.
Upon their arrival, family members and relatives of the sailors welcomed them with national flags and flowers.
The family members and close relatives of the sailors, who gathered at the port, expressed gratitude and satisfaction at the safe return of their loved ones.
City Mayor M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury and Chattogram Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail were present at the jetty to welcome the sailors.
The ship MV Abdullah, owned by SR Shipping, was hijacked by Somali pirates on March 12. The crew members were released after 32 days on April 14.
