Foreign officials and ambassadors of various missions are the targets of those fraudsters by trapping them in love. Although these incidents are not new, they have increased recently. Few decades ago, beautiful women were used to lure officials and diplomats of foreign embassies. In some cases, they were used as a political tool. During the Sheikh Hasina government, this type of fraud trap became more widespread. Outgoing Saudi Envoy Essa Yousef Essa Al Duhailan has been the victim of such fraud.
A Bangladeshi court showed on Thursday the arrest of a model named “Meghna Alam” in a fraud case filed at the capital’s Dhanmondi Police Station on charges of ‘trapping foreign envoys with beautiful girls’. In the same case, her alleged associate, Md. Dewan Sameer, owner of Sanjana Manpower, was arrested and taken on remand.
Mentioned in the hearing, ‘These accused have formed a ring to trap foreign citizens working in embassies, including foreign ambassadors, by adopting innovative strategies. They have been committing these frauds for a long time. The last time they tried to frame Saudi ambassador Essa. It is alleged that they demanded $5 million from him.’
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masum Mia later granted the arrest warrant for the two of them and also granted Dewan Sameer a five-day remand.
