Special Correspondent: A discussion meeting was held at 10 am on Thursday to demand the inclusion of library and information science subjects in the curriculum in an auditorium in the capital. It was presided over by Mr. Mahbubul Alam Bhuiyan, a senior teacher of the capital’s traditional Anandamoyee Girls’ High School. Mr. Abdus Sattar, senior teacher of Sabuj Vidyapeeth School, moderated the meeting.
Honorable executive member of Bangladesh Ideal Teachers Federation and President of Dhaka Metropolitan Professor Noor Nabi Manik Sir spoke as the chief guest in the discussion meeting.
The chief guest said in his speech, we have already raised some basic demands on behalf of the federation including nationalization of educational institutions, cancellation of controversial textbooks and stoppage of publication. Library and information science subjects are included in the curriculum as the demand is justified and the federation appealed to the interim government of Bangladesh to include this subject in the textbooks. In case of other teachers in MPO pattern like Assistant Teacher Maths, Assistant Teacher Bengali the subject is linked with assigned marks in the textbook. Similarly Assistant Teacher, Library and Information Science subjects need to be included in textbooks with logical numbers.
Among other teachers, senior teachers Mr. Anisur Rahman Sikder, Mr. Md. Jahangir Alam, Mr. Md. Maksudur Rahman, Mr. Salim Mia etc. spoke.
A significant number of teachers from various schools in neighboring districts of Dhaka were present in the meeting. A 31-member committee was formed with Mr. Mahbubul Alam Bhuiyan as the president and Abdus Sattar as the secretary with the spontaneous support of the teachers present in order to take necessary steps in various departments of the government to realize the demands.
