
Morshed Alam: Divorce cases are increasing at an alarming rate day by day in Chuadanga district. Marital relationships are breaking down due to various reasons including family instability, extramarital affairs, child marriage, lack of communication disagreements,and lack of moral values. According to the Chuadanga District Registrar’s Office, a total of 8,106 marriages were registered in the district in 2024, and 5,521 divorces occurred.
Separate statistics from the four upazilas of the district show that in Chuadanga Sadar Upazila, there were 2,226 marriages and 2,177 divorces. In Alamdanga, there were 2,431 marriages and 1,237 divorces. In Damurhuda, there were 1,828 marriages and 921 divorces. In Jibannagar, there were 1,611 marriages and 1,096 divorces. In all, there were 8,106 marriages and 5,521 divorces in the four upazilas of the district last year, which is about 68 percent of the total marriages.
Chuadanga Sadar Upazila Muslim Marriage and Divorce Registrar Kazi Shamsul Haque told the Economic Express that the main reason behind divorce is extramarital affairs. Apart from this, families are breaking up due to various reasons including lack of Integrity in the family, husband’s living abroad, mutual distrust. Abdus samad,A school teacher and social activist said that Islamic values must eradicate such problems from society for the betterment of the people and country.
