Mansur Alam, Pabna: India has opened 109 gates of Farakka Barrage, but Padma water has not risen at Hardinge Bridge Point in Ishwardi, Pabna.
For the last four days, the water of Padma has increased significantly. Pakshi Hardinge Bridge Point Water Development Board Reader Harifun Naeem Ibn Salam told Business Mirror that on August 26 and August 27, Padma water was found stable at Hardinge Bridge Point. These two days the height of water here is 11.98 meters. On August 25, the water level at this point was 11.97 meters. He also said that even though India opened 109 gates of Farakka Barrage, the river water did not rise at Hardinge Bridge Point. Sourav Kumar, fisherman of Pakshi’s Hardinge Bridge area, said Farakka has opened the dam. I am in a panic after hearing this. But still the water in the river has not increased much. The water has been almost the same for the last four-five days. We are the first to understand when the water in the river rises. Pabna Water Development Board Assistant Director Mosharf Hossain said the water level at Hardinge Bridge Point is 13.80 meters. Now the water height is 11.98 meters. The water of Padma is flowing far below the Bipatseema. As Padma is a very deep river and its storage capacity is high, even if India opens all the floodgates at once, there is no possibility of severe flooding in Pabna, Natore, Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Chuadanga, Kushtia regions.
