MM Rahmatullah: Bangladesh Pourashava Service Association Central Claims and Implementation Committee organized an exchange meeting held at Engineers Institution on Saturday.
The discussion meeting was organized to demand that the municipal officials and employees suffering from discrimination should be given 100% salary and allowances from the state treasury, along with the introduction of the pension system and the provision of promotion to all types of block posts, and the formulation of acceptable service rules. BAPS Implementation Committee is agitating for 7 demands. Elimination of discrimination by paying 75% of salary of municipal employees on the pattern of Union Parishad employees, appointment of officials instead of public representatives in the relevant committees to increase revenue and increased involvement of local government departments in all types of appointments are among the 7 demands.
At the beginning of the exchange meeting, Convener of BAPS Central Claims and Implementation Committee Engineer M.E. Tushar gave a welcome speech. Engineer Abdul Alim Molla, president of Bangladesh Pourashava Service Association was present as the chief guest in the exchange meeting.
The president of the meeting said, we have to realize our demands at any cost. All professionals including journalists, writers, intellectuals should be involved in our movement. It is demanded that the salaries and allowances of all municipal officers and employees be paid on time and from the public funds.
BAPS Khulna Divisional Secretary and Joint Convener of Claims and Implementation Committee Tasmin Ali Lilly said, “We have been working from morning till evening but we are not getting full salary for almost 88 months. We demand that the government accept our demands, otherwise we will go for a larger movement.
BAPS General Secretary Mr. Abdus Sattar, Member Secretary of Claims and Implementation Committee Engineer Babul Molla, Kazi Rafikuzzaman Rafiq, Nurunnahar Smriti, Mohammad Humayun Kabir, Nur Mohammad, Md. Kamal Uddin, Abul Kalam Azad Dulal spoke among others in the moment.
The leaders of the grass root level expressed their anger that discrimination has been created between the officers and employees in the past years at the event.
