City Desk: A seminar titled “Agriculture and Farmers’ Development of Bangladesh” was held at Jahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall of National Press Club on Saturday 21st September at 3 pm in the initiative of exploring monthly history. The former chairman of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abdur Rob was present as the chief guest in the seminar. The keynote presentation was presented by Dr. Ali Afzal, Managing Director of Krishibid Group, Agronomist. Shibbir Mahmud, chairman of Digant Media Corporation and executive committee member of Ahsania Mission, Redwan Hossain, member secretary of Friends of Grameen (Bangladesh Chapter), former dean of Duet Dr. Abdul Mannan, deputy managing director of Krishibid Group, Krishibid Dr. Md. spoke as special guests respectively. Alamgir and founder of Haque Voice is Colonel (Retd) Abdul Haque.
The event was conducted by Zakir Hossain, Assistant Editor of History Research. The editor and publisher of Itihasa Anbesha SM Nazrul Islam presided over the event.
In the original article, Dr. Ali Afzal first congratulated the revolutionary student youth for bringing down the dictatorial government, sought forgiveness for the souls of the martyrs in the movement and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. He presented 28 proposals on the problems and prospects of the agricultural sector, the most important of which are that the government should encourage industrialists to invest in agriculture and transform traditional agriculture into modern agro-industrial agro-food systems.
Agricultural experts present at the event analyzed the success, potential and reasons and remedies for the lack of proper progress in Bangladesh’s agriculture sector. Other speakers offered advice in the light of their own experiences in agricultural development.
In the President’s speech, SM Nazrul Islam said that absence of fair market management, eliminating the tyranny of middlemen and syndicates, urged the government to formulate and implement a fair plan for the development of agriculture and farmers.
