
Special Correspondent: Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) organised a Country Lecture on “Five Decades of Bangladesh-China Relations: Towards a New Height” on Thursday at the BIISS auditorium.
His Excellency Mr Yao Wen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, was the distinguished guest speaker at the Country Lecture. Ambassador AFM Gousal Azam Sarker, Chairman, BIISS, chaired the Session. Major General Iftekhar Anis, BSP, awc, afwc, psc, PEng, Director General, BIISS,
delivered the welcome address. Dr Imtiaz Ahmed, Retired Professor of International Relations & Executive Director, Centre for Alternatives, Dhaka, Bangladesh, delivered a presentation in the Country Lecture.
Distinguished Guest Speaker of the country lecture, H E Mr Yao Wen noted that Bangladesh and China share historical, cultural, and economic bonds. As Bangladesh and China celebrate five decades of friendship, the trajectory of their relationship points unmistakably upwards. The recent visit of Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor Dr Mohammad Yunus to China has taken significant strides to deepen bilateral engagement, especially in trade, connectivity, energy cooperation, and people-to-people contact. With shared interests in stability, development, and connectivity, the future holds immense potential. By reinforcing mutual trust and ensuring equitable partnership, the bilateral relations between the two countries are well poised to reach new heights in the decades to come, anchored in history, powered by progress, and guided by shared vision.
In the Lecture, participants expressed their firm belief that as Bangladesh progresses toward its development goals and China continues its global outreach, the next chapter of this relationship promises even greater collaboration and mutual prosperity. By embracing innovation, trust, and shared vision, Bangladesh and China can forge a future that benefits their peoples and the broader Asian region.
Senior officials from different ministries, serving and retired military officials, diplomatic missions, media, researchers, academicians and students from various universities, representatives from different think tanks, international organisations, actively participated in the country lecture and enriched it by presenting their valuable opinions, comments, suggestions, and observations during the open discussion session.
