Diplomatic Desk: The High Commission for Pakistan in Dhaka commemorated Pakistan Day with a solemn flag hoisting ceremony held at the Chancery on Sunday morning.
Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Syed Ahmed Maroof, hoisted the national flag to the tune of the national anthem, marking the historic occasion of March 23, 1940—when visionary leaders of the Pakistan Movement, under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, passed the Pakistan Resolution, laying the foundation for an independent homeland for the Muslims of South Asia.
Messages from the President of Pakistan, Mr. Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar were read out, emphasizing the significance of the day and reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to progress and unity.
Addressing the gathering, the High Commissioner extended felicitations to Pakistani diaspora in Bangladesh and Bhutan. He paid tribute to the sacrifices made for the creation of Pakistan and underscored the importance of reflecting on this legacy, renewing collective resolve to build a strong and prosperous Pakistan in line with the vision of the country’s founding fathers. Mr. Maroof also highlighted the role of leaders from Bengal in the Pakistan movement.
The ceremony was attended by members of the Pakistani community in Bangladesh, representatives from the local media, and staff of the High Commission.
