Muladi Correspondent: Under the SWBRPD project of LGED, the construction work of the Nazirpur-Ramarpole-Aryal Khan Bridge has been completed, but the road connection for this bridge, funded by the World Bank’s Sup project, remains almost unfinished in Muladi upazila.
Despite this, the road has been marked with signboards and temporary pillars indicating no vehicles are allowed to pass until the project is completed and handed over to the proper authorities. However, a group of vested interests has removed the pillars in the dark of night, and despite the authorities’ instructions, BRTC and private vehicles continue to operate on the under-construction road/bridge.
The Construction Company, supervisory authority, and local police or civil authorities claim to be unaware of the situation, or they state that it is not within their jurisdiction.
In an effort to ensure proper construction of the route, a written request has been made to the BRTA and BRTC chairs and other relevant authorities to arrange for vehicle movement only after the roadwork is completed. Despite some initial suspension of traffic, vehicles are still moving on the incomplete road.
The authorities’ signboard reading, “Road closed, apologies for the temporary inconvenience,” and the temporary pillars have not stopped vehicles from passing. This issue seems to be overlooked. The local people feel powerless to speak out, and they demand that vehicles should only be allowed once the construction work is fully completed and the road handed over to the authorities. They also pointed out that the damaged road is not only being further damaged by the vehicle movement, but the dust is creating health risks for many people. They urge the authorities to take immediate and effective action.
