Online Desk: The interim government is working sincerely to ease traffic congestion in Dhaka city, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said on Thursday.

“The mal-governance in the country reached such a level for the last 15 years that no one could hold any kinds of movements. Now they think that the interim government is the people’s government, so many people are now staging movement on the field with their demands. But there is no lack of efforts of the present government to resolve the traffic jam,” he told a press briefing.

He said the council of advisers at its meeting today discussed ways of easing the traffic congestion in Dhaka city.

The regular press briefing was held at Foreign Service Academy here to inform about the outcomes of the meeting of advisers’ council held today.

Responding to a question, Shafiqul Alam hoped that the search committee, formed by the government to form the Election Commission (EC), will find impartial and competent persons.
He said the work of arranging the next general elections will begin with the formation of the new EC.

Replying to another query, the press secretary said after the country’s July-August mass uprising, many garments factory owners fled away and as a result, their factories are unable to pay salaries to workers and protests are being held there.

But, he said, at present about 99 percent of the RMG factories are open in the country.

Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretaries Abul Kalam Azad Majumder and Apurba Jahangir were present at the press briefing.
