MM Rahmatullah: The ACC has been working obediently to the government in the past years. It was one of the tools of the Hasina government to suppress opposition views. It has framed someone without any reason, and has given a clean certificate to the villain of a major financial scam scandal.
But, now the Anti-Corruption Commission recently warned of taking necessary action against bureaucrats involved in corruption and irregular activities.
The ACC director general, Md Akhter Hossain, delivered the warning to civil servants while speaking to journalists at the commission’s Segun Bagicha headquarters in Dhaka.
He said, ‘Corrupt bureaucrats will not be spared. In the statements by various organisations, including Transparency International Bangladesh and the media, the issue of the ACC’s indifference towards bureaucracy has been discussed at different times.’
He mentioned that the commission had decided that if any specific and objective complaint against any civil servant was submitted to the commission or came to the notice of the ACC, the commission would take appropriate legal action immediately.
He said the commission wanted to send a warning to all civil servants that there was no scope for showing any favouritism towards any particular cadre or official.
