Moon Desk: Honorable Secretary of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) & Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, Dr Himanshu Pathak, has visited Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) today (Wednesday, 07 December 2022).
BARI BARI Director General Dr. Debasish Sarker with other directors welcomed Dr Himanshu Pathak at the time of his arrival in the institute. Later, Chief Scientific Officer of the Agronomy Division of BARI Dr. Dilwar Ahmed Choudhury gave brief PowerPoint presentation on the activities and achievements of BARI at the Director General’s conference room. Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Bokhtiar, Director of SAARC Agriculture Centre Dr. Md. Baktear Hossain, BARI Director (Support & Services) Dr. Md. Kamrul Hasan, Director (Research) Dr. Md. Tariqul Islam, Director (Training and Communication Wing) Dr. Ferdouse Islam, Director (Oilseed Research) Dr. Md. Abdul Latif Akanda, Director (Tuber Crops Research Center) Dr. Sohela Akter, Director (Horticulture Research Centre) Dr. Gobinda Chandra Biswas, senior scientists and officers of BARI, among others, were present on the occasion.
In the discussion meeting, the Director General of ICAR Dr. Himanshu Pathak said, although agriculture has improved in developing countries like Bangladesh and India, the fate of the farmers have not developed in the same way. Weather and climate of our two countries are almost similar. So the problems in our agriculture are almost the same. So we have the opportunity to work together to mitigate all these problems and challenges. Especially in the use of modern technology in agriculture, soil, water and fertilizer management, ensuring nutritional security, use of drones, use of nano technology, natural farm management, etc., our two countries need to work together.
Later, Dr Himanshu Pathak visited IPM & toxicology Lab and expressed his satisfaction by seeing the activities, advancement and achievements of BARI.
