Faruk Ahmed, Magura: A discussion meeting was held in Magura on the occasion of the 33rd International and 26th National Day of Persons with Disabilities-2024. “Building an inclusive sustainable future, people with disabilities will move forward with developed leadership” was the theme of a rally and discussion meeting organized by the Magura District Administration’s conference room “Chander Hat” on Tuesday in collaboration with the Magura District Social Services Office and the Disability Services and Support Center.
Magura District Commissioner Md. Ohidul Islam was present as the chief guest at the International and National Disability Day program, chaired by Magura District Social Services Office Deputy Director Md. Zakir Hossain.
Also present were Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Abdul Kader, Magura Disability Services and Support Center Disability Affairs Officer Bablur Rahman, Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Israt Jahan, eminent social worker and historian Dr. Tasukuzzaman, General Secretary of Magura Press Club, journalist Md. Shafiqul Islam Shafiq, President of Magura Journalists Union, journalist Md. Faruk Ahmed, Asia Bani’s Magura District Correspondent Journalist Roni Ahmed Raju, Sia Seed’s Best Farmer Md. Akkas Ali, Kachikanchar Mela Director Rokeya Khatun, Magura Sadar Upazila Social Service Officer Jhumur Sarkar and others.
Magura Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Israt Jahan said to the disabled, do not tell anyone the OTP number that comes to your phone and if anyone calls and asks for the OTP number, immediately inform the Social Service Office.
Magura Deputy Commissioner Md. Ahidul Islam said, many people in the anti-discrimination student crowd are getting injured and living with disabilities and the number of disabled people has increased in the society. Child marriage should be stopped and marriage should be done at the right age. Therapy has been provided in Magura since 2013 and therapy services have been provided to 6,064 people. He also said that the disabled are not a burden on society.
On the occasion of the International and National Day of Persons with Disabilities, 50 wheelchairs, 7 tricycles and 2 toilet chairs have been distributed in 4 upazilas of Magura, Magura Sadar, Sreepur, Shalikha and Mohammadpur. 20 wheelchairs, 1 tricycle and 2 toilet chairs were distributed in Magura Sadar and Municipality, 10 wheelchairs and 1 tricycle in Shalikha Upazila, 10 wheelchairs and 4 tricycles in Mohammadpur Upazila and 10 wheelchairs and 1 tricycle in Sreepur Upazila.
Every year, December 3 is observed as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This day has been celebrated under the auspices of the United Nations since 1992. This day was started with the aim of showing sympathy and cooperation towards physically disabled people and respecting their activities.
