MM Rahmatullah: Thousands of supporters of Bangladesh Jamaat‑e‑Islami gathered at the north gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka to denounce the joint U.S.‑Israeli air raids on Iran and the reported assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Sunday, March 1. The demonstration, organized by the party’s Dhaka City North and South units, featured a rally followed by a procession that marched through Bijoy Nagar, Kakrail and concluded at Shantinagar intersection.
Presiding over the event, central executive council member and Dhaka South amir, MP Nurul Islam Bulbul, called the attacks “a blatant violation of international law” and demanded an immediate cease‑fire. He urged the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to take concrete action against the aggressors, warning that continued foreign intervention threatens world peace.
Keynote speaker and party’s senior vice‑chairman, MP ATM Azharul Islam, described Iran as a sovereign nation whose “independence is being crushed by imperialist powers using Israel as a proxy.” He condemned the killing of Khamenei and senior Iranian military officials, questioning how nations that champion democracy can justify such lethal strikes on a free country. He also criticized the UN’s perceived bias toward powerful states, suggesting that its relevance is being eroded.
Assistant Secretary‑General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, MP, added that the attacks are not solely Israel’s work but involve other major powers, heightening global instability. He called for equal application of international law to all states, large or small.
Other speakers, including central publicity secretary Advocate Matiur Rahman Akand and Dhaka North amir Mohammad Selim Uddin, linked the current aggression to a long‑standing pattern of conspiracies against Iran since its 1979 revolution. They demanded that Bangladesh’s parliament adopt a formal condemnation and that Muslim nations present a united front.
The rally also highlighted domestic grievances, with participants condemning the recent murder of Jamaat activist Hafizur Rahman in Chuadanga and urging swift justice for the perpetrators.
The protest, which drew students, religious devotees, and political activists, underscored Jamaat‑e‑Islami’s call for an end to foreign military actions in Iran and for stronger international mechanisms to protect sovereign nations from unilateral attacks.
