Special Correspondent: The gap between the rich and the poor is widening in the current economic system. While some are becoming millionaires, others are left with no shelter but under trees. The government must take effective steps to break free from this vicious cycle of capitalist economics. A new Bangladesh must be built on the foundation of justice and equality. Our martyrs sacrificed their lives selflessly for the creation of a just and prosperous Bangladesh. Renowned Banker and Economist Maolana Mokhlesur Rahman called for the establishment of a discrimination-free society in light of the spirit of the July uprising.

He made these remarks as the chief guest on the 15th day of the ongoing mass iftar program organized by the Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) on Sunday. The event was presided over by the party’s Joint General Secretary Altaf Hossain. Special guest at the mass iftar was Golam Mostafa, Secretary General of Bangladesh NAP. Other speakers included Mamunur Rashid Khan, a Shura member of the Islami Andolon, AB Youth Party Member Secretary Hadiuzzaman Khokon, and Assistant Cultural Secretary Abdur Rob Jamil.

In his speech, Maolana Mokhlesur Rahman further said, “I appreciate the AB Party for organizing this mass iftar for the helpless and homeless. The AB Party has been engaging in rights-based politics. Since its inception, the party has played a strong role on the streets. Despite the threats and intimidation of past fascist regimes, AB Party leaders and activists have remained vocal on the streets. I am confident that the AB Party will always stand by the people against any irregularities in the country.”

He also stated that since independence, every ruling power has only worked for their own prosperity, leaving the people’s fate unchanged. “Our people have always been exploited by corrupt individuals. I feel honored to break my fast with hardworking and underprivileged people. I urge the state to eradicate economic inequality. Zakat is the right of the hard working poor, and hospitals should be more compassionate towards them,” he added.

In his special address, Bangladesh NAP Secretary General Golam Mostafa said, “It was due to discrimination that the state of Bangladesh was created. In then-East Pakistan, we were deprived in all aspects—education, employment, and more. As a result, we achieved an independent Bangladesh through the Liberation War. However, from 1971 until now, discrimination has continued in the same manner. In this context, through the July uprising of 2024, we achieved a new kind of freedom. The state of Bangladesh must be reshaped in the spirit of the July uprising to prevent the rise of any new fascist forces,” he remarked.

In his concluding speech, Altaf Hossain emphasized the fulfillment of citizens’ fundamental rights, stating, “The AB Party has been working for people’s rights since its inception. No election can take place without reforms. An election without reforms would be a betrayal of the martyrs of the July uprising. The uprising was not just for a mere election.”

The mass iftar event was attended by AB Party’s Assistant Secretary for Volunteering and Public Welfare, Tofazzal Hossain Romiz, Kefayet Hossain Tanvir, Assistant Secretary for Women’s Development Shahinur Akter Shila, Assistant Office Secretary Abdul Halim Nannu, Sharon Chowdhury, Assistant Finance Secretary Abu Bakr Siddiq, Assistant Publicity Secretary Ripon Mahmud, Azadul Islam Azad, Youth Party’s Office Secretary Amanullah Sarker Russell, Naya Paltan Thana Convener Abdul Kader Munshi, Jatrabari Thana Convener Arif Sultan, and several central and metropolitan leaders.
