BNP Acting Chairman at AB Party’s fifth founding anniversary
Special Correspondent: At the 5th founding anniversary of Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party), BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman stated that while all political parties call for reform, unnecessary delays in the name of reform are raising concerns among the public. “Judging by some comments, it seems as if calling for elections itself has become a punishable act,” he said during a virtual address from London. Tarique Rahman recalled the political horror that existed before August 5th and commended all political forces who contributed to the fall of fascism. He concluded by congratulating AB Party on their founding anniversary.

Rahman warned that local government elections ahead of the national election could offer a backdoor opportunity for the recently ousted regime to regain influence. The anniversary event was held at the National Press Club in Dhaka, featuring a daylong discussion, tribute session, and cultural ceremony. AB Party Chairman, Mojibur Rahman Monju, presided over the event, and General Secretary, Asaduzzaman Fuaad, a barrister-at-law, gave the welcome address. The program was moderated by Joint General Secretary, Zubayer Ahmed Bhuiyan, a barrister-at-law. Leaders from all major political parties came to congratulate the AB Party and its organisers who worked so hard to build the party from scratch at a very critical time.

Mahmudur Rahman Manna criticized the interim government’s ambiguous stance on reforms and raised concerns over Bangladesh’s involvement in an alleged humanitarian corridor to Myanmar without public or political consultation. Nahid Islam of NCP commended AB Party’s role in the anti-fascist movement and said the party had supported student-led protests when others remained silent. He added that reform, justice, and elections are complementary processes that must go hand in hand.

AB Party Chairman, Mojibur Rahman Monju, thanked attending party leaders and emphasized that building a new Bangladesh requires collective effort. In his speech, AB Party General Secretary, Asaduzzaman Fuaad, said that although the party was founded five years ago, the fascist regime stifled its growth—making its real political journey only ten months long. He reaffirmed the party’s long-standing commitment to issue-based politics, state reform, and people-first governance.

Earlier in the morning, AB Party held a colorful rally from Bijoy Ekattor Chattar through Kakrail, Nightingale, Bijoynagar, and Paltan, concluding at the National Press Club.
